Tottenham have been forced to look for alternatives after missing out on Eberechi Eze.

Eze looked set to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until arch-rivals Arsenal swooped in.

Daniel Levy is set for another embarrassment in the transfer market, but the Lilywhites may end up benefiting despite the setback.

They could end up signing a player who has a huge fan in one of Spurs' best players ever.

Tottenham make Morgan Rogers move after Glenn Hoddle comments

Frank and Co could get revenge on Arsenal by signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle has compared Rogers to former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney, one of the best players that the Premier League has ever seen.

Speaking after the Three Lions' 3-0 win over Latvia in March, Hoddle said: "He was wonderful, I thought he was excellent.

"He's just got that little bit of guile about him, that little bit of turn of pace.

"My word, for his age, he's got that body strength that, possibly like a [Wayne] Rooney when he was really young."

What would Morgan Rogers bring to Tottenham?

While any comparisons to Rooney may be a little over the top, there is plenty to like about a potential move for Rogers, which could cost £80million.

He notched 14 goals and 16 assists in all competitions last season for the Villans in a remarkable breakout season at the elite level after joining from Championship side Middlesbrough.

Rogers is a direct winger with the pace and power to cause plenty of harm to elite defences, and he also boasts great off-the-ball movement that allows him to find pockets of space and cause further trouble.

Strengths:

  • Directness: His pace and power will be a huge problem for opposition defenders
  • Technical ability: His composure with the ball at his feet under pressure would be a major asset
  • Ball carrying: He is a truly elite ball carrier who can drive Spurs forward

Weaknesses:

  • Inconsistency: His final pass can sometimes miss the mark, which leads to turnovers
  • Risk-taking: He is not afraid to be dangerous with the ball, which can lead to him giving the ball away

He has great awareness and composure, which means he does not rush his actions and lose the ball too easily.

He is ambitious and often tries to take matches by the scruff of the neck and win them by himself, which could come in handy for Frank's side.

He is a versatile player that Frank could utilise from the left flank, from an attacking midfielder role, or as a false nine.

He would be a brilliant addition for Spurs, and a real statement of intent from Levy and Co as they prepare to take on the Champions League.
