Harry Kane: Tottenham fans to be thrilled as Bayern Munich transfer situation mooted

Tottenham News speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Tottenham from Rangers in 2008, winning the 2008 League Cup final in just his third game for the club. The former Scotland right-back went on to make 66 appearances in all competitions for Spurs before he left for Aston Villa in 2011. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Tottenham News' team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from North London.

Tottenham great Harry Kane would not be interested in returning to North London after one season if he fails to lift silverware with Bayern Munich, according to Alan Hutton.

The England captain left North London in a reported £100million move during the summer transfer window after a lengthy saga which saw plenty of speculation surrounding his future [Sky Sports, 13 August].

The 30-year-old has got off to a fantastic start in the Bundesliga scoring 30 goals in 25 matches for Thomas Tuchel's side but is yet to lift a piece of silverware having been knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by Saarbrucken in the second round.

Bayern currently trail Bayer Leverkusen by 10 points in the league as well and Hutton thinks supporters will view Kane's spell in Germany as a failure if he returns to Ange Postecoglou's side after a single season in Munich.

"He's only just left," Hutton, who was briefly teammates with Kane at Spurs, told Tottenham News.

"His goalscoring record over in Germany is obviously incredible, I know they're behind Leverkusen which hasn't been ideal for him in terms of the league situation, but I still think he would fancy staying there.

"I don't know what the buy-back is, I don't know the ins and outs of it but I can't really see it if I'm totally honest. I don't think he would come back after one season because in a way it would look as though he'd failed.

"If he comes back and he's not won the league, I don't think it's a great look so I think he'll want to stay and win trophies in Germany. From a fan's point of view, if they get the opportunity to bring Kane back of course they would be happy."

Will Harry Kane complete transfer to return to Tottenham Hotspur this summer?

As Hutton suggests, every Spurs supporter would be delighted to see Kane back in Spurs colours this summer, but the striker has made no secrets of his desire to lift silverware and that is currently more likely in Germany than North London.

Daniel Levy has confirmed that a buy-back clause was included in the 30-year-old's sale, but it isn't known how much such a clause takes to activate or when it could be utilised [The Guardian, 20 September].

Ultimately any transfer would take Kane's seal of approval and at this moment in time, it feels unlikely that the England skipper would be willing to call time on his stay in Munich. While it is a shame for fans, Postecoglou already has plenty of attacking talent in his squad.
