Guglielmo Vicario has not had the easiest start to life under Thomas Frank at Tottenham.

The Italian was Frank's starting keeper when Spurs held four to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena (7 August).

While Vicario was not at fault for most of the goals, he looked shaky when anticipating shots and with his distribution. This display would not have escaped Frank's notice, who has assessed his players vigilantly during pre-season.

As a result, there have been question marks surrounding whether Vicario will continue as Spurs' number one next season.

Frank to start Guglielmo Vicario against PSG

The Dane has constructed a fierce battle between Vicario and Antonin Kinsky during pre-season.

Both keepers have had their fair share of starts this summer, with the scales tightly tipped in Vicario’s favour. There was initial speculation on who would start against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday (13 August), given Kinsky’s strong showing against Newcastle (3 August).

  • Kinsky has started in two pre-season games for Frank. Meanwhile, Vicario has started in three
  • Vicario has conceded more goals than Kinsky during pre-season, albeit he has played more minutes
  • Both keepers could battle it out to be Frank's number one next season

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it is evident the Italian will start the all-important game against the Champions League holders.

“From pre-season, we can see a clear identity of the squad and the players Frank is going to be relying on,” Wenham said.

“And I think we can see that Vicario is going to be the number one this season. I know some fans were talking and debating about Kinsky coming into that role.

“But I think it's pretty obvious that Vicario will be the number one for this season, and we'll be starting the Super Cup.”

Vicario will need to bring his A-game against PSG

The Parisian side made history when they put five past Yann Sommer during the Champions League final.

PSG know how to score goals and will be a formidable team to contend with in the final. As a result, Vicario will need to perform heroics to stop the French side.

This means being alert and ready to stamp out attacks at all times.
