George Abbott has been rewarded after impressing during his time at Tottenham

Abbott is considered to be one of Spurs’ most promising rising stars and showed his class during the 2-2 draw against Wycombe at Hotspur Way (26 July).

The 19-year-old started in the midfield and looked to be one of Tottenham’s better players on the day. From his defensive interventions to accurate balls in behind, Abbott’s performance was a complete one.

As such, the midfielder could once again be set to leave Tottenham on loan after spending last season with Notts County.

Abbott to secure championship loan

Abbott recently signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham, which demonstrated the Lilywhites' commitment to the youngster.

He excelled during his loan spell at Notts County last term, earning a place on the shortlist for League Two Young Player of the Season.

Tottenham are currently overloaded with midfield talent, but that does not mean that Abbott will not succeed at Spurs.

On the contrary, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes Abbott will be loaned out to a Championship club to better develop before he is integrated into the first team.

“I think Abbott will certainly go out on loan," Wenham said.

"I think the new contract was to secure Tottenham's interest in the player. It probably came with a pay rise as well.

“I expect Abbott would have Championship interest because he's so versatile and can play either as a box-to-box midfielder, or as a holding midfielder, or as a right back equally as well. So his versatility makes him a really intriguing signing for lots of clubs.”

Tottenham could loan out more players this summer

The summer of 2025 will go down as a successful one where loan moves are concerned.

Ashley Phillips recently rejoined Stoke City after an impressive loan spell at the bet365 Stadium last season. Meanwhile, Mikey Moore has joined Rangers on a season-long loan in search of more game time away from Hotspur Way.

With Frank already having several options to pick from, more loans can be expected as the summer unfolds. Kota Takai is a name that has come up a fair amount, given that he has yet to have a taste of English football.

The young centre-back could be given a Championship loan to get up to speed with the pace of English football and better adapt to the Premier League.
