Dominic Solanke will have to prove himself to Thomas Frank as Tottenham spies an alternative option.

Solanke has been sidelined for Tottenham since his appearance in Spurs' win over Manchester City at the Etihad.

The striker has sported an ankle injury for a while, with both he and Randal Kolo Muani absent from Tottenham training before Spurs take on Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.

But it now seems that the Englishman will have more to worry about than his ankle in the coming months.

Tottenham intensify interest in Karl Etta Eyong

Tottenham have intensified their interest in Karl Etta Eyong amid rival Premier League interest, according to Fichajes on 28 September.

  • Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in the Levante striker
  • The Blues have already made a formal offer
  • Levante signed him for around £2.6million last summer, and is contracted until 2029

Spurs' interest comes at no surprise given that Kylian Mbappe has more goal contributions in La Liga this season.

In fact, the 21-year-old is outperforming him in one area, recording two more assists than the Frenchman in the Spanish top division this season.

With a record like this, Tottenham will no doubt be eager to make their move with Solanke the likely victim if that happens.

Karl Etta Eyong could become Tottenham's first choice option

Dominic Solanke will be in trouble if Etta Eyong continues to build on his start to the season.

The Levante striker has netted four goals in La Liga this season from 2.96 in expected goals. This is a huge overperformance, which has seen him score once every 139 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Englishman scored nine goals from 10.97 in expected goals during the 2024/25 season. While minimal, it is an underperformance which saw him net once every 245 minutes.

Last season, Solanke had a 15 per cent conversion rate, missing 12 big chances, while Etta Eyong presently has a 22 per cent conversion rate with four big chances missed.

Thus, if this trend carries on throughout the period, Spurs could have a new striker by the time next season comes around.
