Ange Postecoglou speaks out on Mathys Tel transfer speculation at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has spoken out on the possibility of Tottenham signing Mathys Tel.

As reported by Le Parisien (30 January), Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich over a £50million transfer for the French forward.

Harry Kane is expected to hold talks with Tel as the 19-year-old decides if he wants to join Tottenham.

And when asked about the speculation, Postecoglou said [via Nizaar Kinsella, 30 January], "I can’t tell you anything about Tel, I am focusing on getting the team ready, other people are working in the background."

Postecoglou's comments should offer Spurs supporters some encouragement.

Managers will never come out directly and say whether or not their club is signing a player. Therefore, it is no surprise that Postecoglou said he couldn't tell reporters anything about Tel.

However, by saying that other people are working in the background, it suggests that talks are ongoing over a deal, with Spurs the frontrunners to secure Tel's signature.

As a result, fans, as well as Postecoglou, will no doubt be excited and optimistic about the possibility of the club signing a talented young player who could bring a lot to North London.

However, this is Spurs, and supporters will know not to get too carried away before anything is official.
