Tottenham should stick with Ange Postecoglou despite their recent poor form, according to Paul Merson.

Spurs are 15th in the Premier League following a run of just one win in their last ten matches in the competition and the Australian is under heavy pressure as a result

However, the former Arsenal player believes that the Lilywhites should stick with the ex-Celtic boss and urged supporters to give him time with a warning.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (25 January, 13:42 pm), Merson said: "What I would ask Tottenham fans, is what do you want? Do they want to go back?

"Tottenham have got be careful what they do here because all they keep on doing is going 'right, it's too open so we'll go and get a Conte or a Mourinho'.

"Then it's too defensive and then we want someone who is going to be entertaining. Give him a chance, give him three or four years in my opinion."

Tottenham need to give Ange Postecoglou time

While their league position is unacceptable for a club of Spurs' stature, they are still in with a chance of winning a first trophy since 2008.

Postecoglou has taken his side to within one match of the EFL Cup final, if they can maintain their first-leg lead against Liverpool on February 6 then they will make the final.

The Lilywhites are also set to progress automatically to the round of 16 of the Europa League as long as they overcome IF Elfsborg on the final league-phase matchday.

They are also through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after the extra-time victory against non-league Tamworth, where they will face Aston Villa.

It must also be recognised that the Australian has had to deal with a major injury crisis with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie out for a significant period.

Sacking Postecoglou and going back to a defensive head coach would be a backwards step, Daniel Levy and the board should give him time to turn it around.
