Ange Postecoglou could be backed with up to five new signings in January as the injury crisis at Tottenham continues, according to Football London.

The outlet reported on 30 December that the Australian could be given a major boost in the January transfer window with new recruits in five positions.

It claims that Spurs are potentially looking for a goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back as well as a midfielder and another attacker.

The Lilywhites currently have four first-team regulars out through injury and three squad players who would have been crucial for rotation in the festive period.

Postecoglou should be backed at Tottenham not sacked

The Spurs board need to invest in the squad to allow the Australian to implement his playing style in North London.

The club spent over £120million in the summer but the only marquee signing was Dominic Solanke as Postecoglou was forced to rely on younger additions such as Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert to impact his squad.

The Spurs bench for the 2-2 draw with Wolves included out-of-favour defender Sergio Reguilon, reserve goalkeeper Brandon Austin and four under-21 players.

The absence of Christian Romero, Ben Davies and Micky van de Ven has forced Postecoglou to play Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin in a makeshift centre-back partnership again but it is now reported [Mail on Sunday, page 89] that the club are willing to spend £80m on Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

Results have been as expected given that fact and Guglielmo Vicario's injury, the Lilywhites have won just two of their last ten matches in all competitions.

The former Celtic man should be backed in the January window rather than sacking him and starting all over again with a new manager and the same problems.
