Tottenham want to sign Rodrygo to form a lethal partnership with James Maddison and Xavi Simons in the foreseeable future.

Tottenham were linked with Rodrygo over the summer, but a move never materialised due to the Brazilian’s desire to remain at Real Madrid and compete for a starting position under Xabi Alonso.

However, the 24-year-old has started just two of his last 10 La Liga appearances this season as Vinicius Junior continues to be the preferred option on the left-hand side.

As a result, the Lilywhites may finally have a chance to secure their long-awaited transfer.

Tottenham prepared to pay £70million for Rodrygo

Tottenham are prepared to offer £70million to secure Rodrygo, according to Fichajes on 9 November.

It is understood that the amount is enough for the Spanish giants to at least reconsider the position on a sale, which has previously been a resounding no.

Indeed, it is believed that the Lilywhites are keen to recruit Rodrygo to form a devastating partnership with Simons and Maddison

  • The Brazilian’s contract ends on 30 June 2028
  • He has barely played 25 per cent of the available minutes at Madrid this season

Previously determined to prove himself under Alonso, Rodrygo’s situation has changed.

He has seen his importance decrease throughout the season, and would be keen on playing somewhere his talent his valued and Tottenham can offer him this.

Madrid are now stuck between a rock and a hard place: keep a great player who lacks motivation, or accept a solid offer for the Brazilian.

The choice seems simple, especially with Rodrygo’s place in the Brazilian national team slipping away with each passing day.

As such, Madrid could accept £70m for Rodrygo if it becomes clear that he’s no longer in Alonso’s plans and the player himself expresses a strong desire to leave.

Would Rodrygo fit in Thomas Frank’s plans?

Rodrygo would only arrive at Tottenham if there were guarantees that he could play in his preferred position on the left wing.

Spurs’ left wing has been up for grabs since Son Heung-min left, and it looks like Wilson Odobert may finally have stepped up to stake his claim.

The young French international has been solid these past few weeks, netting in their 4-0 win over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League and assisting in Spurs' 2-2 draw to Manchester United.

While Rodrygo may have the name and experience, if Odobert continues like this, Frank may not see a reason to shift him from the left wing to accommodate another player.

However, that’s still a very big if and if things remain as they are, the Lilywhites could be welcoming the Brazilian to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next summer.
