Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist reported in The Sun [10 November, page 57] that Ivory Coast stopper Fofana is valued at around £15million, and could be lured by Spurs to compete with Guglielmo Vicario.

Fofana, 24, is thought to be open to the move despite not being guaranteed a starting place, with Vicario, 28, and Fraser Forster, 36, both in Ange Postecoglou's squad.

Brentford are also suggested to be chasing the Ivorian international, but will only make the move if he would replace Mark Flekken as their number one.

Nixon adds that Spurs could shake up their goalkeeping department by bringing in a younger back-up option to Forster to rival Vicario.

Tottenham Hotspur aim to boost goalkeeping ranks

Tottenham are looking to make an investment into their goalkeeper options with Fofana's younger age profile suiting the club as a future project.

As long as Fofana is accepting that patience will be required for a chance to be a Premier League regular, the move could work out well for Spurs.

The club's scouts watched the stopper in their recent Ligue 1 contest with Paris Saint-Germain, knowing he would be busy, as PSG ran out 4-2 winners.

Vicario has taken his fair share of criticism this season while Forster remains second-string and has made three appearances outside the Premier League this term.

Brandon Austin, 25, was on the bench last Thursday [7 November] at Galatasaray and recently signed a new long-term contract, while Alfie Whiteman, 26, is expected to move on imminently with his deal expiring in the summer.
