Cristian Romero set for Tottenham escape route amid ‘significant’ transfer update
Atletico Madrid are ready to make a renewed offer for Tottenham’s Cristian Romero.
Romer was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid last summer, and according to a report from Fichajes, the LaLiga outfit are set to carry that interest through to the summer.
It’s claimed that they have set their sights on the Argentine as one of their priority signings, with Real Madrid also said to be keen.
Atletico are prepared to “make a significant financial effort” to sign Romero, who is still serving his four-game ban at Tottenham after his red card against Man United.

Cristian Romero’s stance on Tottenham exit revealed
Given the amount of scrutiny, most of which is warranted, that he has received at Tottenham, there will be no surprise to learn that the report also claims he wants the move.
Romero is said to see LaLiga as the ideal destination to continue his playing career, having already set his sights on an exit from North London.
Despite the obvious flaws in his game, Romero is still an exceptional defender, and one who would certainly flourish under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
That is showcased by his 65.4 per cent duel win rate in the Premier League, as well as the fact that he has won 53 tackles this season.
But for him to succeed there, at a team that thrives on defensive discipline, he will have to eradicate the brainless decisions made that have seen him pick up two red cards already this season.

Tottenham must cash in on Romero, here’s why
Tottenham are in a terrible position, and the immediate risk of relegation is a showcase of that.
But if they are to get out of that, they need the right type of character in the team, and Romero simply isnt the one.
The Argentine is a winner, but when the going gets tough, you can sense the level of frustration in his game, and that almost always comes back to bite Spurs.
Romero has become a liability and nothing less this season and last, and that label will stand true for as long as Tottenham are struggling on and off the pitch.
A move in the summer would benefit him and Tottenham, while the money would also allow them to invest where needed.
